What the MASA membership is
MASA (Medical Air Services Association) pioneered the transport-membership model: an annual membership fee in exchange for a contractual commitment to cover emergency medical transport costs — most notably air ambulance — that health insurance leaves behind. It is a membership agreement, not insurance: it never pays hospital, doctor or prescription bills.
XactInsure presents MASA at free seminars across Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties four to five days a week. Attendance is free, nothing is sold in the room, and membership pricing is discussed only one-on-one.
| Typically covered | Typically not covered |
|---|---|
| Emergency air ambulance to the nearest appropriate facility | Non-emergent, scheduled transport |
| Emergency ground ambulance where air isn't practical | Hospital, physician or prescription costs |
| Often: inter-facility transfers, household members | Transports deemed medically unnecessary |
How it fits with Medicare and Medigap
- Original Medicare covers medically necessary emergency ambulance transport at 80% of the approved amount after the Part B deductible.
- Medicare Supplement Plan G covers the Part B coinsurance in full — including the 20% ambulance coinsurance.
- Medicare Supplement Plan N covers it except for a small copay (up to $20 for many ambulance trips).
- The MASA membership is designed for amounts Medicare never approves — the unapproved balance side of the picture.
These protections answer different questions, and many households are best served by reviewing them together — which is exactly what our free 30-minute review does, with your real doctors, ZIP code and prescriptions.
