Five questions to ask before you enroll in any Medicare plan

Between October 15 and December 7, every mailbox in Florida fills with plan offers. Before you sign anything — with us or with anyone — get answers to these five questions in writing.
1. Are my doctors in-network next year?
Networks change every January. The plan that worked in 2026 may drop your cardiologist in 2027. Demand next year's provider list, not this year's.
2. What do my prescriptions cost?
Not 'is my drug covered' — what does it cost, at which tier, and does the plan require prior authorization or step therapy for it?
3. What is the true maximum out-of-pocket?
Advantage plans cap yearly spending, but the caps differ enormously, and some costs (like Part B drugs) can sit outside the cap. Ask for the real number.
4. What happens if I move or my needs change?
Ask which enrollment windows you would have and what options exist if your health or your address changes mid-year.
5. How are you paid?
A licensed agent is paid by the carriers, not by you — and that should be said out loud, with the disclosure to back it. If an agent dodges this question, that is your answer.
